THE BIG FRESNO FAIR ANNOUNCES FIRST EVER COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS AWARDS

Awards to honor those individuals who have made a difference in Fresno County communities

The Big Fresno Fair is proud to announce the inaugural year of the new Big Fresno Fair Community Champions Awards, which will formally recognize individuals who have demonstrated an extraordinary passion for the betterment of Fresno County.

Awards will be given in four categories: Youth, Volunteer, Humanitarian and Educator.
The first four winners of the annual Big Fresno Fair Community Champions Awards will be announced during the 2008 Big Fresno Fair Opening Ceremonies on October 1st.

To be a contender for the Community Champions Awards, individuals must first be nominated by a community individual, Big Fresno Fair staff or past Big Fresno Fair Board of Directors. Nominations will then be reviewed by The Big Fresno Fair Board of Directors and final selections made. Only four awards will be given out each year; one in each of the categories listed above.

“We are very excited about the new Big Fresno Fair Community Champions Awards because the Fair has always showcased the “best” in Fresno County – from livestock to art to pies and quilts,” said John C. Alkire, CEO, The Big Fresno Fair. “Now we have this incredible opportunity to recognize some of the “best people” in Fresno County and continue doing it annually. It’s not only the agricultural industry that puts Fresno County on the map, it’s our community members.”

All Big Fresno Fair Community Champions Award-winners will receive prominent visual recognition at the Fairgrounds, as well as receive a special Community Champions Award plaque at Opening Ceremonies. Award-winners will also be listed on our website.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2008 Big Fresno Fair Community Champions Awards. The deadline for submission is August 15, 2008. Click here for the award criteria and nomination form.
