Because it was not uncommon for nearly destitute Italian immigrants to have arrived in America with little formal schooling and even less knowledge of the English language, education, highly valued in their native land as a path to success, became a primary focus for newly settled families. Parochial schools, which offered religious instruction alongside traditional subject matter, were appealing to many Italian American parents.

Honorary Consuls of Italy in Fresno since the mid 1970s.
